List of rose varieties

Bourbon roses , also Rosa × borboniana , belong to the group of old roses . Its name is derived from the island of Île de Bourbon , now Réunion .

history

French settlers limited their fields on Réunion with Rosa × damascena 'Bifera' (Autumn Damascus Rose) and Rosa × chinensis 'Parson's Pink China' ('Old Blush China'). Among these roses, a seedling was found which was known and cultivated on the island as 'Rose Édouard' and which was brought to France in 1817 to the gardener of the Duke of Orléans . He drew a rose from it, which he called 'Rosier de l'Île de Bourbon'. As a result, more Bourbon roses were grown.

The Bourbon roses replaced the Portland rose group .

properties

Bourbon roses have spherical, large, double flowers and a classic-style habit. They bloom in several floras from June and reach heights of about 1.50 m. They are considered to be quite susceptible to disease. Leaves and shoots already have a resemblance to the later tea hybrids .
