Bowers & Wilkins (B&W) is a company founded in 1966 by John Bowers (1923–1987) and Roy Wilkins under the name B&W Electronics in England.

Products

The company mainly develops and produces loudspeakers in the medium and high-priced segment, which are used both at home and in studios (although they are not studio monitors in terms of design and function ). Bowers & Wilkins has also served the computer and mobile communications segment with its New Media series since 2008. The best-known offspring of this series is the Bowers & Wilkins Zeppelin , which u. a. was honored with the EISA Award 2008–2009 as “Best Product” in the Soundstation segment.

The company's best-known loudspeaker is the Nautilus from 1993. The housing in the form of a worm houses a four-way system controlled by an external active crossover . The loudspeaker is the first to use the so-called Nautilus tube technology, in which the part of the sound radiated from the loudspeaker back into the housing is absorbed by the inverted horn geometry . Acoustic overlay of the music signal with noises that arise in the housing and not in the drivers are thus avoided.

Another popular model series is the Nautilus 800 series , which is currently in its third edition with the 800 Diamond series introduced in 2010 . Their dome tweeters are made from industrial diamonds. The models are among the most popular and best-bought speakers in the high-end sector.

In addition to Rotel , Classé Audio has also been part of the B&W Group , which has its headquarters in Great Britain, since 2001 .

In October 2005, B&W also launched the first floorstanding loudspeaker (XT series) in an aluminum housing, which incorporated knowledge of previous developments.

In the summer of 2011, the company announced that it would also sell so-called earphones in the future. With the C5 model , the manufacturer is venturing into the segment for the first time.

B&W Rhythm'n'Blues Festival

Since 2003, B&W has organized a Rhythm'n'Blues Festival every year with well-known artists at the Gerry Weber Event Center in Halle (Westphalia) .
