Bowmar

Bowmar / ALI Inc was a US company based in Acton , Massachusetts .

Bowmar produced the first pocket calculator available in the USA in 1971 (Bowmar 901B / "Bowmar Brain", dimensions: 131 × 77 × 37 mm). The four-function calculator with an eight-digit red LED display sold for US $ 240.

As a result of the enormous drop in the price of pocket calculators, it was decided in 1974 to manufacture the integrated circuits that had been purchased from outside the company itself. However, the price fell even further, so that in 1975 bankruptcy had to be filed. A continuation was viewed as permanently uneconomical. Bowmar was then closed in 1976.
