Boyd Rivers

Boyd Rivers (born December 25, 1934 in Madison County (Mississippi) , † November 22, 1993 in Jackson (Mississippi) ) was an American singer and guitarist of the gospel blues .

In the church the young Rivers came into contact with music. At the age of 13 he played the blues on guitar, at 16 he switched to spirituals . His uncle Reverend Cleophus Robinson was one of his role models. In Canton, Mississippi , Rivers was first recorded in 1978 by Alan Lomax , John Bishop and Worth Long. In 1979 he played at the Mississippi Delta Blues Festival. Axel Küstner and Siegfried Christman made recordings with Rivers in 1980. Further recordings with Axel Küstner and Eleanor Ellis took place in 1991 and 1993.

Boyd Rivers died in Jackson, Mississippi in 1993 at the age of 58.
