The Hotel and Restaurant Brückenwirt in Neustift (municipality of Vahrn ) near Brixen ( South Tyrol ) is a traditional family business that was first mentioned in 1507.

history

In 1507 the provost Christoph Niedermayr had an arched bridge built from hewn stones over the Eisack . This was destroyed by the floods of the river in 1520.

The current shape of the house goes back to Provost Fortunat Troyer, who in 1687 commissioned the construction of a new inn not far from the Augustinian canons of Neustift . In 1968 Josef Zanol became the tenant of the inn. In 1973 he acquired from Chorherrenstift the guest OS and took him as a hotel and restaurant until his death in 2012. Meanwhile, the management of the company is in the hands of his family.

The Brückenwirt has been a listed building since May 12, 1986.

particularities

  • In the guest garden of the company there is a wooden Torggl (wine press) with a twelve-meter-long press tree including a pressure stone, which was in use in the Neustift Abbey Winery from 1717 to 1969.
  • The South Tyrolean artist Hubert Zanol (1936–2004) - brother of the late innkeeper - captured this Torggl in a large mural on the staircase of the building.
