etymology
The generic name Bradgatia is derived from the type locality in Bradgate Park in Leicestershire in England . The species name linfordensis refers to the town of Newtown Linford in the Charnwood Forest .
Type locality and first description
Bradgatia was discovered in the Charnwood Forest near Leicester in the Bradgate Tuff Formation and was first described scientifically in 1995 by Boynton and Ford.
Occurrence
In addition to the type locality in Charnwood Forest, Bradgatia can be found at Mistaken Point and Bonavista Point in Newfoundland . The fossil is also found in British Columbia .
description
The bush-like Fossil bradgatia linfordensis consists of six or more fronds ( English fronds ), which extend from a central anchoring point on the base. Its exterior resembles a crushed cabbage. If there are several fossils, they are distributed regularly and not statistically. Bradgatia reached between 8 and 22 centimeters in height above the sea floor. The fossil assumed a dominant position at this ecological altitude and was only overtaken by the Charnia and Charniodiscus that had grown nearby .
