Bradley John Walsh (born June 4, 1960 in Watford , England , United Kingdom ) is a British actor , singer and former footballer . In German-speaking countries, he is mainly known for his leading role as Detective Sergeant Ronnie Brooks from the series Law & Order: UK . Since October 2018 he has played Graham O'Brien , one of the Companions of the 13th Doctor in the series Doctor Who , played by Jodie Whittaker , the first woman in this role.

Life

Walsh was born in Watford , England but grew up near Leavesden . Even as a schoolboy he played soccer and was a very successful goal scorer. At the age of 18 he became a professional at Brentford FC , but was only ever a member of the reserve team. However, several ankle injuries ended his career early. He came to television after several different jobs in the 1980s, early 1990s when he became one of the presenters of the British National Lottery television draws . In 1997, he hosted the UK edition of the Wheel of Fortune game show for one year . He had his first acting role in the form of a minor supporting role in the series Lock, Stock .... , later followed by roles in the soap Night and Day . He first came into contact with the Doctor Who franchise in 2008 in the spin-off The Sarah Jane Adventures , in which he appeared in two episodes. Since 2009, he played the Detective Sergeant Ronnie Brooks in Law & Order: UK over the entire period of eight seasons.

In 2017, he was cast as Graham O'Brien , one of the companions of the first female Doctor in Doctor Who , for the 11th season of the new series.

Walsh also works as a singer. In 2016 he released his debut album Chasing Dreams , which went straight to number 10 on the UK album charts and number 13 on the Scottish album charts. In 2017 his second album, When You're Smiling , was released, which was again successful in the charts and found similar placements as his first album.
