Braeval / Braes of Glenlivet is a whiskey distillery in Chapeltown of Glenlivet, Banffshire , Scotland , UK .

history

The distillery was founded in 1973 as Braes of Glenlivet by Chivas Brothers , a subsidiary of Seagram . In 1975 it was expanded from three to five and in 1978 to six stills. It has been called Braeval since 1995 to avoid confusion with the Glenlivet distillery. In 2001 Seagram's spirits division, and with it the distillery, went to Pernod Ricard , which they shut down in August 2002. The distillery is located at an altitude of 355 m / 1,165 ft, making it the highest in Scotland, Dalwhinnie held this title during the temporary closure . Under Pernod Ricard's direction, the Braeval distillery was reopened in 2008 to meet future needs for blended whiskey. The number of bottlings as malt is very manageable.

production

The water of the Speyside distillery comes from the Preenie and Kate springs. It has a mash tun ( mash do ) (8.4 t) of steel and 15 fermenting tanks ( wash backs ) (together 660,000 l), also made of stainless steel. Distillation takes place in two wash stills (22,000 l each) and four spirit stills (10,000 l each) that are heated indirectly by steam. Since the distillery does not have its own warehouses, the kegs were bottled and stored in Keith during Seagrams times . There are no owner bottlings from this distillery.
