The Brahms memorial in Resselpark on Karlsplatz in the Austrian capital, Vienna, is dedicated to a work by the sculptor Rudolf Weyr and the composer Johannes Brahms .

history

The monument was financed by the City of Vienna and unveiled on the occasion of Brahms' 75th birthday on May 7, 1908 on Karlsplatz. In the course of the underground construction from 1969 to 1976 in the area of ​​Karlsplatz, the Resselpark and Karlsplatz were partially redesigned by the landscape architect Sven-Ingvar Andersson and the Brahms memorial was also relocated.

The monument erected in the north-eastern area of ​​the Resselpark shows Johannes Brahms from Hamburg, who is seated, and a reclining female figure (the muse of music, Euterpe ) with a lyre at his feet . The figures are made of light marble and the wide stepped plinth is made of granite.
