Rudolf Weyr , from May 14, 1911: Rudolf Ritter von Weyr   (born March 22, 1847 in Vienna ; † October 30, 1914 there ) was an Austrian sculptor. He is considered a representative of the Neo-Baroque and one of the most important artists of the Ringstrasse epoch .

Life

After studying with Franz Bauer and Josef Cesar , he worked for the latter for a while. Working alone from the 1880s onwards, he created the sculptural furnishings for a number of important Ringstrasse buildings. Weyr became a member of the Olympia fraternity in 1866 . He was the uncle of the graphic designer and author Siegfried Weyr . Rudolf Weyr was married to the journalist and writer Marie Weyr (1864–1903), the daughter of Friedrich Uhl .

Rudolf Ritter von Weyr suffered from arteriosclerosis in his later years ; October 30, 1914, he died of in the course of pneumonia occurred cardiac paralysis . He was buried (according to his own request) in the Döblinger Friedhof (group 9, no. 5). The conduct , which had started from the mourning house, Landstrasser Hauptstrasse  74, Wien-Landstrasse , made its way to the cemetery in front of the Wiener Künstlerhaus , the deceased's long-term place of activity, where the board of directors of the artists' association, Hugo Darnaut , gave a farewell speech.

In 1919, Weyrgasse was named after him in Vienna-Landstrasse (3rd district of Vienna) .
