Brambleleaf Island is a tussock- overgrown island in the archipelago of South Georgia in the South Atlantic . It is located southeast of Iris Bay , east of Twitcher Bay and north of Lewald Glacier .
The UK Antarctic Place-Names Committee named it in 2009. It is named after the tanker RFA Brambleleaf of the Royal Fleet Auxiliary , which was used in April 1982 as a supply ship in the Falklands War during the reconquest of South Georgia after the invasion by the armed forces of Argentina .
