The Brandenburg Chamber Orchestra Berlin was founded in 1977 by members of the Collegium Musicum of the Berlin universities . The approximately 25-30 string players of the Brandenburg Chamber Orchestra Berlin are mostly committed amateurs and work "on the side" in a wide variety of professions.

history

Initially directed by Detlef Schönewald, after a temporary collaboration with Thomas Lange, Markus Theinert conducted the orchestra for six years from 1991. His successor was André Ezerski until 1998.

Since then, Rainer Johannes Kimstedt has directed the Brandenburg Chamber Orchestra Berlin, with which he has also performed as a soloist. Julia Prigge is the permanent concertmaster . During the winter 2007/2008 work phase, Bernhard Forck and Uri Rom rehearsed with the orchestra. The 2008 summer work phase was supervised by Marion Leleu as a guest conductor.

At the German amateur orchestra competition in 1986, the ensemble won first prize at the federal level, and in 1992 it was nominated as the state winner for the national competition.

The orchestra rehearses weekly in Bülowstrasse in Berlin-Schöneberg , and twice a year on weekends outside of Berlin. Two to three concert programs are developed each year. The performances take place in Berlin and the surrounding area. In summer 2007 the musicians traveled to St. Petersburg for concerts for the first time , and in summer 2012 the orchestra was a guest in Switzerland .
