Ariadne Daskalakis

Ariadne Daskalakis (born December 1, 1969 in Boston, USA ) is a violinist of Greek - American origin who lives in Germany and, in addition to her concert activities, is professor of violin at the Cologne University of Music and Dance .

biography

Daskalakis grew up in a family of first generation Greek immigrants in the United States . Trained on the violin at an early age, she received lessons from Eric Rosenblith from the New England Conservatory Preparatory School, among others . She attended the Winsor School in Boston and then studied violin at the Juilliard School in New York (with Szymon Goldberg ) and at the Berlin University of the Arts (with Ilan Gronich and Thomas Brandis ), where she passed her concert exam in 1999. In addition to her musical training, she earned a Bachelor of Arts from Harvard University in 1993 .

From 1992 to 2003 she worked closely with the Ensemble Oriol Berlin , which played mostly without a conductor, and with whom she also appeared as concertmaster and soloist. In 1994/95, Ariadne Daskalakis and other leading members of this ensemble founded the Manon Quartet Berlin, which performed numerous concerts and several CD recordings until 2007. As a soloist she has played with the Potsdam Chamber Academy , the Berlin Symphony Orchestra , the Northwest German Philharmonic , the Stuttgart Chamber Orchestra , the English Chamber Orchestra , the Prague Chamber Orchestra, the Brno Philharmonic, the Stuttgart Philharmonic , the Cologne Chamber Orchestra, the Athens National Orchestra and the Symphony Orchestra of the Bavarian Radio Munich, the Academy for Early Music Berlin , the Dortmund Philharmonic , the Cologne Academy , the New Bedford Symphony Orchestra, the Norsk Barokkorkester and Concerto Köln . Her chamber music partners at Duo - recitals include the pianist Paolo Giacometti, Roglit Ishay, Anthony Spiri, Nina Tichman and Miri Yampolsky.

Her repertoire covers old and new music equally and in a wide range. In 2004 she was involved in the world premiere of Caspar Johannes Walter's violin concerto "Drawings" in the musica viva series in Munich, and in 2005 in the Vienna world premiere of the work "Herr K und Frau N", which Christoph Coburger performed for her and the violist Sebastian Gottschick wrote. In 2011 she worked as a soloist with the Akademie für Alte Musik Berlin in the production “4x4”, choreographed by Juan Kruz Diaz de Garaio Esnaola (dance company Sasha Waltz & Guests) based on Vivaldi's “ Four Seasons ”. She is co-founder of the Ensemble Vintage Cologne and plays classical repertoire with gut strings, historical bow and fortepiano in historically informed performance practice.

In 2012 she founded the international summer chamber music festival Music from Land's End Wareham in Wareham, Massachusetts (USA). In the same year she was also involved in founding the International Chamber Music Week of the European Academy of Music and Performing Arts Palazzo Ricci, Montepulciano . Since 2015 she has been the artistic director of the Palazzo Ricci.

After winning prizes at various regional competitions in 1985/1986 (Boston Symphony Orchestra Youth Concerts, Brookline Concerto Competition, Mystic Valley Concerto Competition), she was awarded the Framingham State University's Christa McAuliffe Medallion, which was first awarded on this occasion, in 1986 and in 1987 with the Francis Lanier Award from the New England Conservatory. She won other prizes at the Ibolyka Gyarfas Competition in Berlin (1992), the ARD Munich International Music Competition (1998) and the St. Louis Symphony Strings Competition (2000). She was also a scholarship holder of the Mozart Society Dortmund (2000).

Former students of Ariadne Daskalakis have permanent positions at the WDR Symphony Orchestra Cologne and the WDR Funkhausorchester Cologne , the Orchester philharmonique du Luxembourg , the Gewandhausorchester , the Beethoven Orchestra Bonn , the Cologne Chamber Orchestra, the International Ensemble Modern Academy , the Düsseldorf Symphony Orchestra , the Geneva Camerata , the Aachen Symphony Orchestra and the Badisches Staatstheater Karlsruhe . She also looked after award winners at international competitions in Germany, Italy, Spain and Japan.
