The fire safety watch (also fire safety watch service ) is an on-call service of the fire brigade at events and other occasions when there is an increased risk of fire. It is used to detect a possible fire at an early stage, to initiate countermeasures and to combat the danger as it develops .

Basics

The fire safety watch is always deployed (in Germany according to national regulations) when there is an increased risk of fire and a large number of people are at risk. A risk analysis is also used to determine whether a fire safety watch is required below these limits, e.g. B. when using pyrotechnics . Even with larger festivals fire safety guards are necessary, such as carnival rides , Martin fires , winter burns , bonfires and the like.

The number of fire safety guards in Austria is the responsibility of the local fire police and can also be determined when the event is commissioned. It is regulated in TRVB N 136. In Germany , this task lies with the department or authority of the city or local authority responsible for fire protection . According to the sample meeting place ordinance and many meeting place ordinances of the federal states, a fire safety watch is prescribed for events on large stages or on scene areas over 200 m².

Use at public events

In order for a fire security guard to be effective, small extinguishing devices such as fire extinguishers or wall hydrants must also be available. In the event of larger incidents, sufficient fire engines support the fire safety watch.

One of the tasks of the fire safety service is to observe the general rules of preventive fire protection and any requirements before and during the event . In the event of danger, the fire security guard must ensure that the safety devices at the meeting place are activated ( protective curtain , water spray extinguishing system, etc.) or should effectively manage the evacuation of the building.

The tasks of the fire safety watch can be carried out by employees of the meeting place if the operator receives permission to do so from the responsible fire protection authority. The prerequisite for this is that enough employees are trained accordingly.

Plant fire brigades

In companies with a company fire brigade or company fire brigade , a fire safety guard works with absolute authority for all approved work with an open flame, or for inspections with breathing protection.

Before starting work on the fire, the absence of gas must be confirmed and a written fire permit issued stating which additional precautions must be taken (attaching tarpaulins, foam blanket, C-pipe on standby, fire extinguisher, etc.).

When working under respiratory protection, after a breathing air analysis has been carried out, a written permit is issued in which the type and implementation of the work and the equipment to be used are precisely defined.

It must always be possible to alert the plant fire brigade directly from the workplace.
