Brassolis is a butterfly - type of the tribe brassolini in the family of Edelfalter (NYMPHALIDAE), exclusively in the Neotropics occurs.
features
The moths differ greatly from those of other Brassolini genera in their short, compressed body, short palps and a relatively small head.
The caterpillars resemble those of large cubes , they have a large head capsule without thorns, behind which the body tapers. The dolls are curved, round and thus resemble Dynastor dolls, which in turn resemble a snake's head.
The caterpillars live gregariously in webs and feed on palm trees . They can appear as pests on coconut palms ( Cocos nucifera ).
The distribution ranges from Guatemala to the Amazon basin , Brassolis isthmia is the only one of the four species to be found in Central America .
