The Marienhöhe School Center is a Christian school center in Darmstadt-Eberstadt in private ownership with the primary school , secondary school , grammar school and college branches as state-recognized private schools . The school center includes a boarding school for boys and girls.

Marienhöhe Theological Seminar (1957)

history

The facility was founded in 1924 as a mission school in the building of the former gymnastics and dance school by Elizabeth Duncan . The listed main building was built in 1910/11 in a country house style for the Elizabeth Duncan School according to plans by the Mannheim architect Rudolf Tillessen .

In the course of time, the Marienhöhe changed from a preacher's seminary with a commercial school, housekeeping school , nursing preschool to an advanced high school and vocational school to the current school form as a school center with elementary school, secondary school, grammar school and college.

With the introduction of the course system in the 1970/71 school year in the upper secondary school, as one of the first schools in Hesse, the school assumed a pioneering role. The Marienhöhe was recognized as an experimental school by the Hessian Ministry of Culture , creating additional state-sponsored apprenticeships. In 1989 the advanced high school (from grade 7) became a normal high school starting with grade 5.

In 1993 the Marienhöhe received the approval to set up a secondary school from grade 7, the state recognition took place in 1996. Three years later the operating permit for the 5th and 6th grade of the secondary school was also granted. The 8-year high school (G8) was introduced in the 2005/06 school year. In the summer of 2010, an additional elementary school (single course) was set up. Since the 2012/13 school year there have been G9 classes again due to the increased demand from parents and students (2016/17 in classes 5–10). Due to the sharp decline in demand for the G8, there will only be a 9th class G8 from 2017/18. This branch will not be continued.

The school is supported by the Evangelical Free Church of the Seventh-day Adventists . Admission to school does not, however, depend on denomination or ideology.

The educational goals are based on the Christian image of man and include 6 guiding values: experience appreciation, experience the joy of learning and performance , practice cooperation , develop personal responsibility , live holistically and practice sustainability . The Marienhöhe school center has been a "health promoting school" recognized by the Hessian Ministry of Culture since 2010.
