The Haberstumpf brewery is a small, private Upper Franconian brewery.
location
The Haberstumpf brewery is located in Trebgast , in the immediate vicinity of the small town of Kulmbach in Upper Franconia , known as the "beer town" , the region with the highest density of breweries in the world.
history
The forerunner of the brewery, the "Schenckstatt" (a bar) was first mentioned in a document in 1394 and was located on the church square.
In 1531 the Schmidt brothers were given the "right to preuen and mulze".
From 1813 to 1948 the brewery was owned by the Haberstumpf family. When August Haberstumpf had a fatal accident in the brewery in August 1948, the brewery passed to his niece Helga Wernlein, who bequeathed it to her son Hans Wernlein.
In 2017 the brewery got into economic difficulties, which led to the temporary cessation of production.
In autumn 2019, the Kulmbach entrepreneur Bernd Förtsch acquired the Haberstumpf brewery.
Types of beer
The Haberstumpf brewery brews various always available or seasonal beers under the names "Gagelmännla", "Zunft-Pils", "Der weiß August", "Die Schwarze Kunni", "Helles Vollbier", "Zwicklbier", "Kellerkrönla" and " Hopfenbock ".
In 1991 Haberstumpf was the first brewery to brew a "Zwickl" beer, which the brewery marketed as the "Federweißer of beers".
In August 1993 Haberstumpf brewed an organic beer for the first time under the name "Landkrönla" and was thus a pioneer of the organic movement.
