from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Wieselburg brewery is a large brewery in the Lower Austrian town of Wieselburg . Their best-known products are the Kaiser and Wieselburger beer brands . It is part of the Austrian Brewing Union, which has been part of the Heineken Group since 2003 .

history

The beer tradition of Wieselburg goes back to the year 1650. The year 1770 is considered to be the foundation, when Josef Schauer bought the brewery. It was expanded in 1811 and after the brewery went to Franz Schauer in 1823, Nepomuk Mutzer acquired it.

In 1858 the Wieselburg brewery was damaged by fire. In 1860 the company went to Josef Riedmüller, who greatly expanded the area. Today's brewery inn was added in 1888. In 1912 the breweries in Krems , Kröllendorf , Melk and Pottenbrunn , among others , were bought.

When the Austrian Brau AG , the predecessor of Brau Union Österreich AG, was founded in 1925, the Wieselburg brewery also joined the company.

Between 1971 and 1973 the company was heavily modernized with new buildings and was then one of the most modern breweries in Europe.

sightseeing

A brewing museum was opened in 1994, in which the history of the brewery location is presented on over 200 exhibits. Brewery tours are possible from January to June and from September to December. Pre-registration is necessary.
