The Zum Ochsen brewery was one of two existing breweries in Bieswang , a current district of the town of Pappenheim in the Weißenburg-Gunzenhausen district in Central Franconia . The Wurm brewery, which is still active today, existed next to it. The Zum Ochsen brewery was located at the old house number 45 and used to be called Oberer Wirt .

history

The beginning of the brewery is unclear, in 1814 a brewer Johann Georg Käfferlein is known. In 1887 Johann Michael Schnitzlein acquired the property including the brewery. He quickly gained such a good reputation as a landlord and brewer that his beer was served in six restaurants. His son Johann Michael took over the property in 1910. In 1946 he handed the brewery over to his son Georg, who gave up brewing in 1956 and only ran the restaurant until 1979. The brewery had a storage cellar on the main road, but it was never used.
