Brown Coal Committee
The lignite Committee (including lignite Committee , abbreviated BKA ) is a committee of the regional planning at the level of regional and state planning , which in some German federal states on behalf of the respective state government the conditions for the mining of brown coal developed and related lignite mining plan designs. The key point here is the participation and decision-making of the affected and involved citizens.
Such a committee exists in the countries:
- North Rhine-Westphalia for the Rheinische Revier
- Brandenburg for the Brandenburg part of the Lausitz district
- Saxony for the Saxon part of the Lausitz region (Upper Lusatia) and the Saxon part of the Central German region (West Saxony)
The composition, tasks and working methods of the committee differ slightly in detail in the countries mentioned. What they all have in common is the basic objective of citizen participation. In order to achieve this, the committee consists of representatives from state politics and administration as well as local representatives, in some cases also from representatives of various social groups, selected through their interest groups (chambers of industry and crafts, agricultural associations, employers' associations, trade unions, churches, environmental associations, ...).
