The Braunkopfliest ( Halcyon albiventris ) is a bird of the kingfishers family (Alcedinidae).
features
The Braunkopfliest is a medium-sized representative of the genus Halcyon . It has a strong red beak, red legs and a striped brown forelock. The wing tops are dark brown to black as well as cobalt blue. The tail and back feathers are azure blue.
Occurrence
The Braunkopfliest is common in Africa south of the equator with 4 subspecies. There it can be found in forest areas, in bushland as well as in agricultural regions.
food
The diet consists mainly of insects, but can also include snakes, scorpions, lizards, other young birds, rodents and fish.
