The flood - When the sea devours the cities (Original title: Flood , reference title: The flood - A city sinks or The flood - When the unimaginable becomes reality ) is a British disaster film from 2007 based on a novel by Richard Doyle .

action

The film shows how a flood overwhelms the gates of London after the Thames Barrier fails to withstand a huge wave. A storm surge , the increased water level and a spring tide only reach the small Scottish town of Wick together . The crisis team meets. UK Weather Bureau representative Keith Hopkins believes the storm is heading towards Holland first . He only realizes his mistake when Professor Leonard Morrison reveals that the flood barrier will not withstand the impending flood. The Deputy Prime Minister Campbell therefore declares a state of emergency and has London evacuated. The crisis team moves into the Cobra 2.

The water rises and also floods the Thames Barrier. Rob and his ex-wife Samantha jump into the cold Thames to try and get dry. Rob's father remains on the flood barrier and is rescued by a military helicopter and taken to the White Hall . Rob and Samantha make their way with the two workers Bill and Frank through the London Underground to Trafalgar Square , from where they can contact the government.

Keith Hopkins, feeling guilty about the bodies on the television news , commits suicide . Rob, Samantha and Leonard must find a way to prevent an even bigger disaster .

production

The film was produced in London and South Africa by Muse Productions, Moonlighting Films South Africa and Power. The special effects of the representation of famous London landmarks such as the underground, the Houses of Parliament or The O2 (The Millennium Dome) were very complex. The water was added virtually. All scenes of Whitehall, the Scottish coast, the London Underground and the Thames Barrier were filmed in Cape Town .

Reviews

“If you are into disaster films, this film is definitely interesting […] [o] although [it] has been a little 'drawn out', it is […] exciting. […] So many remain Dialogues that shouldn't have been and interesting scenarios when the water floods reach London and large areas are flooded over a large area. "

- Andreas Böhmer for zelluloid.de

“The action starts at high speed, does not slow down for anyone and has hardly any time for triangular affairs or family reunions. Conclusion: exciting, fast and nicely tricked. "

- (Part 1) Cinema :

“It remains exciting, even when the pace slows down, the monotonous music tears on your nerves and pathos wins the upper hand. Conclusion: Here you don't get left dry! "

- (Part 2) Cinema :

“Despite a good cast and more show values than comparable German productions have to offer, the watery drama is boring with outrageous twists and turns and strict adherence to the messed up disaster film ABCs. Logic is on vacation as always and even actors like Robert Carlyle can't save the flick from tiring more than it is captivating. "
