Breda Jazz Festival
The Breda Jazz Festival is one since 1971 in Breda existing Festival of Traditional Jazz and Swing . It is one of the major European festivals of this genre.
Behind the founding instead of the Roaring Twenties Jazz Club Breda, founded in 1968 . The event takes place on four days in May (Ascension weekend) and was initially called Oude Stijl Jazz Festival Breda . The venues included the congress hall in the Turfship and the Graanpijp concert hall and are now various podiums throughout the city center.
The program includes a gospel concert in the Grote Kerk , a surprise band that has been specially put together for the festival since 1999 , and duo concerts by two jazz musicians.
In addition to European bands and musicians, many American musicians also performed at the festival. These included George Probert (from 1974), Jabbo Smith , Arnett Cobb , Ben Webster , Benny Waters , Doc Cheatham , Dan Barrett and Lionel Hampton (1995). Already in the 1980s over 100,000 listeners came.
