George Probert

George Arthur Probert junior, (born March 5, 1927 in Los Angeles - † January 10, 2015 in Monrovia , California ) was an American clarinetist , soprano saxophonist and band leader of Dixieland .

Probert was self-taught on his instruments and played with Bob Scobey from 1950 to 1953 and then in Kid Ory ’s Creole Jazz Band. He also recorded with both (Kid Ory Creole Jazz Band 1954 GTJ 1954). 1954 to 1969 he was in the Firehouse Five plus Two Band of the Dixieland Revival, which was formed from studio musicians from Disney Studios. At the same time he was musical director at Walt Disney Studios from 1955 . From 1973 he toured with his own bands in the USA ( West Coast ) as well as in Europe and especially in the Netherlands ( Breda Jazz Festival ) and Great Britain. In 1997 he toured Europe with Big Bill Bissonette's International Jazz Band, with whom he also recorded (at Jazz Crusade 1997).

He also recorded under his own name for Fat Cat's Jazz, Jazz Crusade and Jazzology. In 1957 and 1968 he recorded with George Brunies . In 1978 he recorded in Budapest with the Benko Dixieland Band and in 1973 at the Manassas Jazz Festival.
