The Breisgauer Narrenzunft Freiburg (BNZ) is the umbrella organization of 34 fools guilds and the gentlemen's council of the Swabian-Alemannic Carnival in Freiburg im Breisgau .

In addition to the Swabian-Alemannic street carnival with a big fool's jump on Carnival Monday, the Breisgauer Narrenzunft also maintains the carnival tradition of the Freiburg “fifth season” and organizes a “cap meeting” with humorous contributions. The fools guild is organized in the form of a registered association . Its member guilds have almost 2,000 members, including 456 children and young people up to the age of 16 (as of 2014). The chief guild master of the BNZ is Matthias Moser from the “Blaue Narre” (status: 2016).

history

It was founded on April 13, 1934. On the one hand, it continued the tradition of the Freiburg Carnival Association , founded in 1888, and the Great Carnival Society, founded in 1927 , which were incorporated into the new association, but primarily wanted to introduce Alemannic carnival traditions in Freiburg. For this purpose, “nests of fools” were founded in the Freiburg districts. In 1937, the Breisgau fools 'guild was a founding member of the Upper Rhine Association of Fools' Guilds (VON) and forms their "Vogtei Freiburg".

The clubhouse of the Breisgauer Narrenzunft has been the guild room in the community center Zum Grünen Jaspis in Freiburg's Turmstrasse since 1977 . The upper floors of the house and two rooms in a neighboring house serve as a carnival museum . There are figures of fools and other objects on the history of the carnival in Freiburg. The Upper Rhine Narrenschau in Kenzingen (the museum of the VON) also shows numerous fool figures from Freiburg.

Since 1987, the fool's guild has been awarding a "fool's prize" to a celebrity every year. The first award winner was Prime Minister Lothar Späth . The organ of the association is the "Friburger Narreposcht".

The Breisgauer Narrenzunft named four of its member associations as "Erznarren": Erznarr Nr. 1 is the Fasnetrufer guild , Erznarren Nr. 2-4 are the Herdermer Lalli-Zunft 1930 , the Blaue Narre and the Oberwiehre Kindsköpf .

Fool call

The fool's call in Freiburg is "Narri - Narro". The individual guilds are free to also use their own guild call.
