The house at Breite Straße 44 is a listed building in the town of Wernigerode in the Harz district in Saxony-Anhalt . It is a residential and commercial building.

Architecture and history

The building is located in the historic old town of Wernigerode on the south side of Breite Straße , one of the city's main shopping streets. It is long, three-storey and has a large courtyard entrance. The roof was also removed. There are three dormers , each with two windows facing Breite Straße.

The main building on the street side was rebuilt with functional, simple half-timbering. Unplastered, burnt red bricks were installed between the wooden beams for visual decoration. A wooden cartouche with a carved motto is located above the symmetrical courtyard entrance in the middle of the building.

Several shops and stores have been located on the lower floor of the Breite Strasse 44 building since the 19th century.

The building used to have the location list number 433. It was originally a residential building with an annex on the left, courtyard and house garden, stable on the right, stable next to it (converted to a workshop in 1908), side building on the left, barn across (transferred to no. 432 in 1905), wooden stable left (transferred to no. 432 in 1905).

The owner of the building was the driver Andreas Bock in 1895/96. This was followed in 1896/97 by his son-in-law, master blacksmith Heinrich Ottilie with his wife Marie born. Buck. In 1905 the Breite Strasse building was owned by the accountant Karl Hahne and his wife Elise, née. Ottilie and her co-heirs. In 1907 the bicycle dealer Ernst Rasch from Nöschenrode bought the building.

The house is listed as a monument in the monument register of the city of Wernigerode under registration number 094 03262.
