Hermann Dieter Oemler

Hermann Dieter Oemler (* 1939 in Wernigerode ; † December 30, 2011 ) was a German photographer and author whose work focused primarily on the history of his hometown Wernigerode.

Life

Dieter Oemler was already interested in local history and photography in his youth. The trained salesman has been building up a photo archive at Wernigerode Castle since 1972 and worked as a photographer in the Feudal Museum, which was located in the castle, until the early 1990s. He published three illustrated books about Wernigerode and devoted himself to researching social housing , architectural monuments, the history of monument preservation and the history of Wernigerode's Judaism . In addition, he wrote articles for various local history magazines, such as the “Neue Wernigeröder Zeitung”. His photos can be found in his own publications and others. a. in publications by Konrad Breitenborn , Uwe Lagatz , Manfred Oelsner and Georg von Gynz-Rekowski .

In the 1990s and early 2000s, Oemler ran a publishing house in which, in addition to his own writings, from 1996 to 2003 the Unterm Brocken series published by the Wernigerode Heimat- und Geschichtsverein . Wernigeröder Heimatblätter appeared.

In 2012 an exhibition with photographs from Oemler from six decades took place in the Harz Museum Wernigerode .

From 1986 until shortly before his death, Oemler and his wife Evelyne mapped the mushrooms in the Wernigerode district .
