Konrad Breitenborn (born July 1, 1950 in Halle (Saale) ) is a German historian and museum specialist .

Life

Breitenborn studied history, German and art history at the Friedrich Schiller University in Jena from 1969 to 1973 . He then worked as a research assistant at the Feudal Museum at Wernigerode Castle . After the doctorate A to Dr. phil. (1980) he completed his habilitation in 1992 at the Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg for the subject of modern history .

Breitenborn became known through numerous publications in the field of regional cultural history and the state history of Saxony-Anhalt as well as the publisher of relevant source editions . From 1993 to 1996 he was the scientific director of the Institute for Art and Culture Wernigerode Castle, in 1996 he became head of the science department and in 1997 deputy director of the Dome and Castles Foundation in Saxony-Anhalt . At the same time he was a lecturer at the Institute for History at Otto von Guericke University Magdeburg , which appointed him honorary professor in 2005 .

Breitenborn holds a number of honorary positions, including a. President of the State Home Federation of Saxony-Anhalt and Deputy Chairman of the Society for Democratic and Contemporary History Saxony-Anhalt e. V. Since 2003 he has been deputy chairman of the board of the state media authority Saxony-Anhalt. From 1990 to 1994 he was a member of the FDP parliamentary group in the state parliament of Saxony-Anhalt. He is a full member of the Historical Commission for Saxony-Anhalt .

On October 8, 1996, he received the Federal Cross of Merit on ribbon.
