The Breitenauer Hof is an estate within the municipality of Löwenstein in the Heilbronn district in northern Baden-Württemberg .

history

The farm originally belonged to the Order of St. John and came into the possession of the Counts of Löwenstein in 1428 through the purchase of Georg von Löwenstein . In 1541, Count Wolfgang owned the farm, and in 1571 the farm passed to the Count Ludwig III brothers. (1530–1611) and Count Albrecht (1536–1587). In particular, sheep were kept on the farm; the leaseholder of the farm held the shepherd's rights for the entire mark. During the Thirty Years War in 1641 the farm lay desolate. In the late 17th and 18th centuries, the so-called master's house of the court was the residence of the Löwenstein executioners , who were denied an apartment within the city walls. In 1873 the shepherd's right was replaced. In 1893 the farm was a princely domain, the associated lands covered 85 hectares, the farm had 32 residents, including the large family of the tenant Christian Hege . From 1975 to 1980, the Breitenauer See , which got its name from the estate, was laid out near the farm . Today the farm belongs to the district of Heilbronn , the tenants cultivate nine hectares of vineyards and around 120 hectares of green and arable land.
