Karl-Heinz Dähn

Karl-Heinz Dähn (born August 23, 1926 in Kupferzell ; † August 21, 2016 ) was a German teacher and local researcher .

Life

Dähn became an air force helper in 1943 , was at a boarding school in Schwäbisch Hall in 1943/1944, was a soldier from 1944 and was an American prisoner of war in 1945/1946 . From 1947 he went to a boarding school in Künzelsau and graduated from high school there in 1950 .

In its two years of teacher training at the Pedagogical Institute Esslingen he was from Henry Roth in educational science and psychology taught. In 1952 he became headmaster in Billensbach , in 1964 he moved to Löwenstein , where he directed the elementary school . In Löwenstein he was in charge of the city ​​archives on a voluntary basis from 1969 to 1987 and, from 1968 to 1977, encouraged permanent excavations on the ruins of Burg Löwenstein , which he also directed. His interest in castles , with which he repeatedly occupied himself as a castle explorer in publications, lectures and excursions in the following decades, earned him the nickname Burgen-Dähn .

In 1973 Dähn switched to the Gerhart-Hauptmann-Schule in Heilbronn as headmaster and moved to Untergruppenbach , but remained loyal to his preoccupation with Löwenstein subjects and in 1987 published the home book 700 years of the city of Löwenstein . Dähn also kept busy with the writer Manfred Kyber , who lived in Löwenstein and died there in 1933. From 1968 he wrote articles about him several times, and in 2010 a Kyber biography by Dähn was published. From the Manfred Kyber room, which he and his wife set up in the Löwenstein elementary school in 1968, the Manfred Kyber Museum opened in 1993 in the Löwenstein Freihaus after a stopover in the town hall .

At the end of his professional career, Dähn was director of the state education authority in Heilbronn from 1979 to 1991 and then retired. From 1977 to 2003 he was deputy chairman of the Heilbronn Historical Society , in whose yearbooks he published numerous articles. He also dealt with the local history of Neipperg and Stockheim and the history of Haus Neipperg and Castle Neipperg . In his adopted home Untergruppenbach, he was particularly concerned with Stettenfels Castle and was one of the founders of the local homeland association, to which in 2006 he donated most of his local history specialist library (with the exception of castle literature).

Dähn died in August 2016 two days before his 90th birthday.

Dähn was married. His marriage to his wife Dorothea ("Dodo"), which was closed around 1952, resulted in a son (* around 1954) and a daughter (* 1957).

Awards

Dähn became an honorary member of the Heilbronn Historical Society in 1998, received the Manfred Kyber Memorial Prize in March 2008 and the badge of honor of the Home Care Working Group in the Stuttgart administrative district in April 2010. In February 2011 he was awarded the Prime Minister's Staufer Medal for services to the state of Baden-Württemberg .
