Brenda & the tabulations
Brenda & the Tabulations were an American singing group formed in Philadelphia , Pennsylvania , in the mid-1960s .
Career
The group consisted of Brenda Payton (born October 24, 1945, † June 14, 1992) and the singers Eddie Jackson , Maurice Coates and Jerry Jones . The quartet released several R&B songs, and in 1967 the single Dry Your Eyes also reached number 20 on the US charts. In addition to original compositions, the album of the same name also contained funky versions of songs by the Beach Boys ( God Only Knows ), The Marvelettes ( Forever ), The Supremes ( Where Did Our Love Go ) and Dionne Warwick 's second top hit Walk On By .
In 1970 the music producer and songwriter Van McCoy signed the band, switched the male backing singers Jackson and Jones to the singers Pat Mercer and Deborah Martin and again gave them some hits in the "Black Charts". Also Right On The Tip Of My Tongue came in 1971 in the official sales charts (No. 23).
