Bresser is a German manufacturer and distributor of optical devices such as astronomical telescopes , microscopes , binoculars and accessories, as well as its consumer electronics division for digital weather stations since 2004 and action cameras since 2016. The main supplier is Jinghua Optical & Electronics (JOC).
history
The Bresser company was founded in 1957 by Josef Bresser and initially specialized in the import and sale of binoculars . After Bresser's death, his son Rolf took over the business in 1979.
In 1990 Bresser Optik became the largest supplier in Europe.
In 1999 Rolf Bresser decided to sell his company shares to the world market leader, the Meade Instruments Corporation . In addition to telescopes and binoculars, Bresser also offers microscopes .
In 2009, Meade Instruments Corporation sold Meade Instruments Europe GmbH & Co. KG to Rolf Bresser und Partner for 9.4 million euros while retaining the name and with the same task (distribution of the Meade product range in Europe).
The sales company Bresser LLC was founded in the USA in 2010 .
In 2013 the legal form and the company name were changed to Bresser GmbH.
Observatory
In May 2003, the Josef-Bresser-Volkssternwarte was opened in the Hoxfeld district of Borken .
