Attractions
A popular excursion destination in Hoxfeld is the small moated castle Haus Pröbsting . It was first mentioned as a manor in 1221 and is considered the oldest demonstrable secular brick building in the Münsterland . Left to decay for decades and partially collapsed, it was completely renovated and rebuilt in 1988. After the building belonged to the Borken district for several years, it is now privately owned again. Furthermore, the old farmhouse of the Seeger family, which was built in 1820, is known nationwide. The Seeger family died out completely in 2012.
A popular local recreation area has emerged in the vicinity of Haus Pröbsting , the center of which is the 10-hectare Pröbstingsee with hiking trails, boat rentals, a campsite and mini golf course . The boathouse at Pröstingsee is a popular stop for walkers and cyclists. The beer garden has a shady spot with cool drinks, coffee and cake, ice cream and much more. On Sundays and public holidays, freshly fried grilled sausage from the charcoal grill, currywurst and of course French fries are offered at the grill stand.
In the summer of 2009 a planet path was created around the lake. Along the way you can find out more about the planets in our solar system and see them to scale.
Another attraction in the local recreation area Pröbsting is the climbing forest Borken . With a total of 10 climbing parcours over a total length of approx. 1350 m, the park offers challenges for all ages from 3 years. The highlight of the course is a 110 m long cable car from a height of 12 m. The climbing forest also offers opportunities for team events, adventure education , trainings and seminars.
Sports
In the middle of the Hoxfeld recreation area on the Pröbstingsee is the club house and the soccer field of RC Borken-Hoxfeld . The football department of the sports club plays its home games here at the Hoxfelder Sportpark on Rabbitberg.
There is also an equestrian center at Pröbstingsee.
