Borkenwirthe ( Low German Weerde ) is a farming community belonging to Borken in the district of the same name . About 1100 inhabitants live in the scattered settlement. Until 1969, Borkenwirthe and the neighboring village of Burlo formed an independent municipality.

The former Winterswijk – Gelsenkirchen-Bismarck railway , which has been closed since 1996, runs through the area .

In the center of Borkenwirthes is the Church of the Holy Cross , which today belongs to the parish of St. Ludgerus in Weseke .
