Marbeck is a village with 2485 (as of September 2018) inhabitants in the western Münsterland . It belongs to the town of Borken in the district of the same name . Until 1969 it was an independent municipality. Marbeck is especially important as a train station for the surrounding settlements.

Marbeck is about 3.5 kilometers south of Borken and just under 2 kilometers southwest of the main town of the directly adjacent municipality of Heiden . In the south of Marbeck is the city limit to Raesfeld, which is just under 6 kilometers away .

Marbeck is shaped by the Engelradingbach , the upper reaches of the Borkener Aa , which runs directly through the settlement area. In addition, the Bruchbach flows into the Engelradingbach here. The area is mostly used for agriculture.

history

Marbeck was first mentioned in a document under the name Marckapu in the 9th century.

Marbeck has been part of Borken since July 1, 1969.

On January 1, 1975, about 240 residents of the original community of Marbeck moved from the city of Borken to the neighboring community of Heiden . The settlement is directly adjacent to Marbeck and is now called "Heiden an der Bahnhofstrasse".

Culture and sights

With the Marbeck home building, the place has a museum that shows farm work and exhibits historical equipment. Many bicycle roads and hiking trails cross the wooded area. Two former castles, the Engelrading estate and the Döring house , are reminiscent of times long past, as is the old oil mill .

The most important event is the Marbeck Christmas market . It takes place annually on the 1st Advent weekend (Sat. and Sun.), 2nd Advent weekend (Sat. and Sun.) and 3rd Advent weekend (Thu., Fri., Sat. and Sun) at the Waldhof Schulze Beikel.

Marbeck is on the Winterswijk – Gelsenkirchen-Bismarck railway line . The Marbeck-Heiden stop is served every hour by the regional express RE 14 “Der Borkener”. The local passenger transport is carried out by the NordWestBahn .

The former reception building, which is under monument protection and is kept in half-timbering, dates from 1906. Today it is privately inhabited.

Sports

The largest sports club is FC Marbeck, which offers tennis and popular sports in addition to football. The first men's team in the football division plays in the B district league, the women's team in the district league.
