Gemen is a district of Borken in the district of the same name . The district have been used for the incorporation in 1969, the two former municipalities City Gemen and parish Gemen latter consisting of the peasantry Gemenkrückling and Gemen keepers , the former district Borken attributed. However, Gemen never had city rights ; the title "city" only served to distinguish it from the parish. At the beginning of 2016, Gemen had 8188 inhabitants, of which 170 were Gemenkrückling and 425 were Gemenwirthe. Gemen is best known outside of the area for the Castle Gemen , which was the ancestral seat of the Lords of Gemen in the rule of the same name .
geography
The town center around Gemen Castle has already grown together with the urban fringes of Borken. The town center of Borken is about 1 km away in a south-westerly direction. The two farmers belonging to Gemenkrückling and Gemenwirthe, which are separated by the Sternbusch forest , are in the northeast and northwest of the village. The industrial area Borken Ost connects to the south .

history
On July 1, 1969, the two communities Stadt Gemen and Parish Gemen were incorporated into the district town of Borken.
