The house Döring is an Outbound castle in Borken district Marbeck , Döringweg 5 in the district of Borken in North Rhine-Westphalia .

The castle

The castle was probably built as a tower hill castle (Motte) in the 12th century. It consisted of a stone residential tower that stood on an artificial 8 meter high hill. The tower was surrounded by a double moat . The farm buildings and a watermill formed the outer bailey .

Current condition

A two-storey, three-axis baroque building from 1727 stands on the hill today . Remains of the medieval castle have been preserved in the cellar. The watermill in the outer bailey has also been preserved. Although part of the outer trench has been drained, the structure of the ring system can still be clearly seen.

Von Döring family

The von Döring family was mentioned as far back as the Middle Ages . In 1265 Johann von Döring was the bishop of Bocholt and Borken. In 1303 Johan de Döring is named as a knight. It is believed that the family was a branch of the von Lembeck family.

In 1922 the property became the property of the Anton Klümper family.
