Brian Griffiths

Brian Griffiths, Baron Griffiths of Fforestfach , (born December 27, 1941 in Fforestfach , Swansea , Wales ) is a British economist and politician ( Conservative Party ).

Life

Brian Griffiths studied at the London School of Economics and Political Science and taught there from 1965 to 1976. In 1976 he became Professor of Banking and International Finance at City University London . From 1982 to 1985 he was Dean of City University Business School (since 2002 Cass Business School ).

He was director of the Bank of England from 1983 to 1985 . Griffiths was Head of the Prime Minister's Policy Unit from 1985 to 1990 and a senior advisor to Margaret Thatcher . Griffiths has been Vice Chairman of Goldman Sachs International since 1990 . He also works for Times Newspaper and Herman Miller Inc. He is a director of ServiceMaster, the English, Welsh and Scottish Railway, and the Land Securities Trillium. He was Chairman of Westminster Health Care from 1999 to 2002. He is Vice President of the Nature in Art Trust.

On February 5, 1991, he was appointed Baron Griffiths of Fforestfach , of Fforestfach in the County of West Glamorgan , by Queen Elizabeth II . He chairs various committees of the House of Lords . From 1991 to 2001 he was chairman of the Center for Politics of the House of Lords.

Griffiths, a member of the Church of England , chairs the Archbishop of Canterbury's Lambeth Fund and Christian Responsibility in Public Affairs . He is committed to the Centesimus Annus Pro Pontifice (CAPP) foundation founded by Pope John Paul II in 1991 and is a member of the Board of Trustees of the Pontifical Foundation.

He has published numerous papers on financial policy and business ethics.
