Brian David Sick Nick (* 30th July 1978 in New Brunswick , New Jersey ; † 7 January 2021 in Washington, DC ) died in service as a police officer of the United States Capitol Police at the Pro-Trump-riot against the US Congress on 6 January 2021 . On this day, the relatives tried one by the then incumbent President Donald Trump incited mobs the force building of the US Parliament in Washington, DC to storm.

The violent attack on the US parliamentary system was prevented by the use of police officers such as Sicknick, the interrupted parliamentary session was able to continue and the election result in Biden's favor was thus ratified.

Legal investigations and proceedings into his death have begun. Sicknick, who has been part of the USCP unit since 2008 - most recently in first aid - is said to have been injured in the head with a fire extinguisher on January 6, according to the news magazine Spiegel, returned to his unit's office and collapsed there. He was taken to a hospital where he died on January 7th.

On January 29, 2021, Nancy Pelosi and Chuck Schumer announced that Sicknick would be laid out in the Capitol with a guard of honor made up of colleagues from the United States Capitol Police . On the evening of February 2, 2021, President Joe Biden and his wife attended the ceremony along with many Republican and Democratic MPs from both chambers of Congress. Apart from deserving politicians, Sicknick is the fifth person to receive this honor - after Billy Graham , Rosa Parks and the two Capitol cops Jacob Chestnut and John Gibson who were shot in 1998 while on duty .
