Brigadeiro

Brigadeiro ( Portuguese for Brigadier ) is a kind of truffle praline called, which is one of the specialties of Brazilian cuisine . The praline has now also become popular in Portugal . The coconut version of the Brigadeiro is Beijinho (Portuguese: little kiss).

history

The candy was first made in the 1940s and is named after the Brazilian politician Eduardo Gomes (1896–1981). Gomes, known as "Brigadeiro", was an officer in the Brazilian Air Force and twice a minister. According to various circulating legends , the "Brigadeiros" are said to have been invented during the 1946 election campaign for the first of Gomes' two failed presidential candidacies .

Ingredients and preparation

Ingredients are sweetened condensed milk, butter and cocoa powder. These are heated together, formed into balls and rolled into chocolate sprinkles.
