Brigitte Grass

Brigitte Grass , née Brigitte Oertel , (born October 11, 1953 in Braunweiler ) is a former German foil fencer and current economist . From 2009 to 2019 she was President of the Düsseldorf University of Applied Sciences .

Athletic career

Brigitte Oertel was active for the Königsbacher SC Koblenz . In 1971 Oertel won the German championships in women's florets in the active age group, although she was still eligible to compete in the juniors. In the same year she was also German junior champion. She was able to defend this title in 1972. In 1977 she won another German championship title, in 1976 she became runner-up.

Oertel took part in two Olympic Games. In 1972 in Munich she only competed in singles and was eliminated in the second of four rounds. In 1976 in Montreal she was 18th in the individual and just barely missed a medal in fourth with the team (Oertel, Karin Rutz-Gießelmann , Cornelia Hanisch , Ute Kircheis-Wessel , Jutta Höhne ). Oertel was more successful at the 1977 World Championships . Together with Karin Rutz-Gießelmann, Ute Kircheis-Wessel and Cornelia Hanisch, she was team vice-world champion behind the team of the USSR.

Professional background

After her doctorate at the University of Cologne in 1981 (title of the dissertation: “The planning of the product taking into account humanization and environmental protection problems”), Grass worked for several years as a consultant for the Boston Consulting Group in Düsseldorf. She then became Professor of Business Administration at the Cologne University of Applied Sciences in 1991 . In 1995 she was the founding dean of the economics department at the Bonn-Rhein-Sieg University of Applied Sciences , where she remained a professor until 2009. Her teaching areas included business strategy, service marketing, management consulting, corporate management, as well as rhetoric and presentation. From 2009 to 2019 she was President of the Düsseldorf University of Applied Sciences .
