The Mourning Collared Dove ( Streptopelia decipiens ), and Sudan mourning dove , Angola dove or trill pigeon called, is a dove from the genus of turtle doves , as breeding birds in Africa south of the Sahara is widespread. In German usage, the South American spectacle dove has a very similar name. However, this South American pigeon, which occurs at altitudes up to 4,500 meters, belongs to the genus Metriopelia .
Appearance
The spectacle pigeon is a stocky pigeon, with a total length of 31 cm, one centimeter shorter than the related Turkish pigeon . The name "Brillentaube" comes from a wreath of red, bare skin around the yellow eye; the feet are also red. The head is gray, the back, top of wings and tail are pale brown, and the underside gradually changes from pink on the chest to light gray on the belly. Just like the turkish dove, it has a black neck band with a white border. The sexes are similar, but juveniles are more dull in color, with scaly body feathers .
In flight, blackish wing feathers and a large white field on the tail feathers become visible, by which they can be distinguished from the similar but larger half-moon dove ( Streptopelia semitorquata ). The call is a quick "krrrrrrrr, uu-UU, uu".
distribution and habitat
Spectacled pigeons occur in Egypt and Ethiopia as well as in Sudan, Senegal, Togo, Tanzania, Malawi, Somalia, Kenya, Cameroon, Angola and Zambia.
The pigeon inhabits arid sandy areas with a population of thorn bushes. Accessible surface water is a prerequisite for settlement.

The pigeon feeds on grass seeds, other seeds and parts of plants; foraging usually takes place on the ground.
Unlike many other members of the genus (but similar to the turkish pigeon), the pigeon pigeon is very sociable and often looks for its food in flocks, also associated with other pigeon species.
The courtship behavior is similar to that of the laughing dove. However, the male's bows are done in faster order. She builds a nest of twigs in a tree, often a mangrove , and lays two white eggs in it. Their flight is fast, with regular flapping of their wings and an occasional clapping sound, typical of pigeons in general.
