The Briquet de Provence is a not from the FCI recognized dog breed from France . It is recognized at the national level by the French cynological umbrella organization SCC, where it is divided into group 6, section 1.2 with the standard number 911 .

Origin and history

The Briquet de Provence is a medium-sized hunting dog from Provence in south-eastern France. Dogs of this type have probably been around for some time in the region; It was first described as a breed in the form of a standard in 1934. Organized breeding has only taken place since around 1980; a breed club was founded in 2003. The Briquet de Provence was recognized by the SCC in 2006 and its standard was last changed in 2008.

description

The breed is of medium size, not too long, well muscled and has strong bones. The length of the body is slightly greater than the height at the withers . The snout is the same length or slightly shorter than the skull, the stop is not very pronounced. The dentition is strong and developed as a scissor bite ; missing premolars and / or a pincer bite are tolerated. The ears are set at eye level or a little below, their front edge is slightly rolled outwards. Its tip must reach at least to the base of the nose. There is a dewlap on the throat . The belly is slightly raised, the tail is set low and is carried high when working.

The short coat is red, with or without a black coat. Little white on the paws, tip of the tail, chest and forehead is permitted, but not desired.
