The Gold Coast Blue Tongues are a semi-professional Australian ice hockey club from Bundall , Gold Coast , Queensland , founded in 2005 and playing in the Australian Ice Hockey League . The full name is Bartercard Gold Coast Blue Tongues . However, the sponsor Bartercard is rarely mentioned.

history

The Blue Tonges, whose mascot is a blue- tongue skink that is common on the Gold Coast , was founded in 2005 and, as part of the league expansion, was added to the Australian Ice Hockey League , the country's top division, with the Central Coast Rhinos this year . The name at the time was Brisbane Blue Tongues because the team played their games in Boondall , a northern suburb of Brisbane .

From 2005 to 2007, the Blue Tongues could continuously improve from seventh to fifth place at the end of the regular season, but missed the playoffs for the Goodall Cup . The team finished the 2008 season in seventh and penultimate place. After the 2008 season, the team moved to Bundall, around 80 kilometers south on the Gold Coast . The management hoped the move would provide better opportunities to find sponsors. In addition, many Blue Tongues players live on the Gold Coast.

Ice hockey professionals from abroad keep appearing for the Blue Tongues. The Canadian Rob Zamuner , who played 798 games in the National Hockey League , and the Canadian ice hockey goalkeeper Tyrone Garner , who played for the Calgary Flames in the NHL, were on the ice several times for the Blue Tongues in the AIHL.
