Robert Francesco "Rob" Zamuner (born September 17, 1969 in Oakville , Ontario ) is a former Canadian ice hockey player of Italian descent who played 832 games for the New York Rangers , Tampa Bay Lightning , Ottawa Senators during his playing career between 1986 and 2006 and Boston Bruins in the National Hockey League on the left winger position . Zamuner celebrated his greatest career success in the jersey of the Canadian national team by winning the gold medal at the 1997 World Cup .
Career
Zamuner first played for the Oakville Oaks and Guelph Junior B’s , before going on the ice with the Guelph Platers in the Ontario Hockey League from 1986 to 1989 . After he was selected in the third round of the NHL Entry Draft in 1989 in 45th place by the New York Rangers , he immediately switched to the professional field in the fall of 1989. There he was between 1989 and 1992 first for the Flint Spirits in the International Hockey League and then for the Binghamton Rangers in the American Hockey League . His only nine appearances for the Rangers in the National Hockey League , he denied during the 1991/92 season .
After his contract with the Rangers expired, the striker moved in the summer of 1992 as a free agent to the Tampa Bay Lightning , who had only recently been accepted into the NHL. In his very first season, Zamuner had the most successful season of his career with 72 points scorer. In the following years Zamuner developed into the leading figure of the less successful team. For the 1998/99 season - his last in Tampa - he was the franchise's third team captain . In June 1999, the attacker was handed over to the Ottawa Senators along with a second-round vote in the 2002 NHL Entry Draft . In return, Andreas Johansson moved from the Senators to the Lightning. The striker played in the Canadian capital for two years before joining the Boston Bruins as a free agent . Another three years in which he broke the mark of 700 NHL games and 300 scorer points, he spent in Boston.
Due to the lockout of the 2004/05 NHL season , Zamuner moved to EHC Basel in the Swiss National League B in August 2004 . With the Basel team, he became NLB champions this season and was promoted to National League A in the following year . After a few games for the EHCB in the NLA, he ended his career at HC Bozen in the Italian Serie A1 and the Brisbane Blue Tongues in the Australian Ice Hockey League . In 2006 he ended his career.
Since March 27, 2008 Zamuner has been employed by the National Hockey League Players' Association NHLPA as a representative of the Northeast Division .
International
Zamuner his country represented Canada at the World Championships in 1997 and 1998 and the 1998 Winter Olympics in Nagano . He won a gold medal with the team at the 1997 World Cup. In particular, his qualities as a striker on the defensive and his good rate in the face-off were decisive for the surprising nomination in the Olympic squad.
