Brochis was a genus of the family of callichthyidae (Callichthyidae). The Brochis species live in the upper Amazon basin and inthe upper basin of the Paraguay River .
features
Brochis species are similar to Corydoras species, but in contrast to these have 10 to 17 fin rays in their relatively long dorsal fin . Your head is flattened on the sides, the body relatively high back. The maxillary barbels do not reach the gill covers. Brochis species are 6 to 12 cm long.
Systematics
The genus Brochis is phylogenetically within Corydoras , making the genus Corydoras paraphyletic . The proposal to synonymize Brochis with Corydoras has meanwhile been largely adopted by Fishbase and the Catalog of Fishes.
species
The genus included the following species:
- Brochis britskii Nijssen & Isbrücker , 1983
- Brochis multiradiatus ( Orcés V. , 1960)
- Brochis splendens ( Castelnau , 1855)
