The Brodsky Quartet is an internationally known string quartet from Great Britain . The quartet was formed in 1972, of the founding members Ian Belton and Jacqueline Thomas still belong to the formation. In addition to its outstanding interpretations from the field of European classical music , especially the classical repertoire for string quartets by Haydn , Beethoven , Schubert , Bartók and Shostakovich , the Brodsky Quartet was established through the collaboration with leading protagonists from the rock and pop field such as Björk , Elvis Costello and Paul McCartney are known to a wider public. The Brodsky Quartet plays the strings on Björk's 'Family Tree' collection . Another peculiarity of the quartet is the fact that the members mostly appear standing up. For this purpose, Jacqueline Thomas modified her cello with an extra-long tip and uses a small stool under her left foot so that she can support the instrument on her bent knee. The musicians often accompany their performances with humorous and informative announcements.

In May 1988 the Brodsky Quartet received a Royal Philharmonic Society Award for its outstanding contributions to music.
