Broederliefde is a Dutch hip hop group from Rotterdam .

Band history

The members of Broederliefde originally come from a group of young people from the Rotterdam district of Spangen who met regularly to play football. Emerson Akachar aka Emms was the first to start rapping and Jerr, Sjaf, Edson and Mella joined him in 2011. With their music, they were quickly not only successful in their hometown, their music videos also achieved high views on the Internet. After a year they put together a mixtape called Broederliefde , which found its way to the Universal label and brought them a record deal.

In 2014, the group of five released their first single called Labanta , which was viewed over a million times on the internet. The debut album Gevoelig feestje was released on August 29, 2014 . It immediately made it to number 3 in the Dutch album charts , but fell out of the top 100 again after 4 weeks. The follow-up album Hard Work Pays Off was released less than a year later . Although it only came in at number 13, several songs made it into the Dutch Top 100 and Alaka was her first hit in the Nederlandse Top 40 .

The big breakthrough came at the end of April 2016 with the second part of Hard Work Pays Off . The album went straight to number 1 and stayed there for 14 weeks with interruptions. This marked a new record of number 1 weeks for a Dutch language album. At the same time it was the most successful album of the year and reached platinum status (40,000 units sold). The first album also returned to the charts and Broederliefde were represented in the charts with three LPs for months. All 14 songs on the album entered the top 100 in the first week. The most successful song was Jungle , which reached No. 4 in the Top 100 and No. 14 in the Top 40. Later that year they also had other hits with other musicians like Jan Smit and Jayh . On November 6th they were honored as the most successful Dutch act at the MTV Europe Music Awards 2016 in their hometown Rotterdam.
