architecture

The bronze bust of Wilhelm I follows the conventional type of portrait bust. On a high, brick pedestal, the emperor is depicted in a general's uniform with a painterly draped (ermine) coat, which, as an imperial attribute borrowed from the baroque repertoire, is intended to symbolize the dignity and importance of the depicted. The uncovered mighty head is erect and turned slightly to one side. A thoughtful, contemplative streak determines the face, which is adorned with strong whiskers, and emphasizes the imperial majesty rather than the soldier. The sculptor was Lazar Diamant from Munich .
