Brotherhood of Blessed Gérard

The Brotherhood of Blessed Gérard is the South African aid organization of the Sovereign Order of Malta funded by donations and is based in Mandeni in the province of KwaZulu-Natal . The organization was founded by the German Missionary Benedictine Father Gerhard Lagleder OSB, who is also president of the organization, together with South Africans in 1992. One of the co-founders and closest employees and full-time manager of the Brotherhood was the South African Clare Kalkwarf , who was shot in her private home on April 6, 2006 as part of a robbery. The Brotherhood of Blessed Gérard is involved with a large hospice , a children's home, a kindergarten, an antiretroviral therapy program (HAART) and other projects in a region with a very high HIV / AIDS rate. The project was funded and supported by Burgl Helbich-Poschacher from the Austrian AIDS Service Malteser .

The organization is named after the Blessed Gérard Tongue , who founded the Order of Malta in 1099.
